Practice Profile:
Before transferring to the Bar in July 2006, Jonathan practiced as a solicitor for 18 years and was a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel for 12 years. As a solicitor, Jonathan had Higher Rights of Audience (Civil).

He was a founding partner of Wilkinson Pope, a specialist family law practice in Islington and practised exclusively in the area of children law representing parents and children in care proceedings and in complex private law proceedings.

In particular, Jonathan represented young people in secure accommodation proceedings and in proceedings where they were represented separately from their guardian.

Jonathan has worked voluntarily for Law Centres, Citizens Advice Bureaux and the Family Rights Group over many years. Most recently, he has worked voluntarily for the Bar Pro Bono Unit.

Jonathan is a specialist family practitioner. He has an established practice in children law with particular emphasis on public law (care) proceedings. He represents parents, children and local authorities at all levels of court.

Jonathan has extensive experience in representing children and parents in public law (care) proceedings and complex private law proceedings where there is social services involvement with the family.

Jonathan is regularly instructed in cases involving non-accidental injuries, sex abuse, physical abuse, neglect, substance misuse, learning disabilities and teenage parents.
