About 14 Gray's Inn Square

We are a friendly and progressive set firmly committed to equal opportunities and dedicated to the highest standards of advice and representation. We supply services to private clients and also have a strong commitment to representing publicly funded clients. 14 Grays Inn Square accepts cases regardless of the background or circumstances of the client.

Within chambers we speak the following languages: French, German, Italian, Mandarin, Spanish and Yoruba.

The members of 14 Gray's Inn Square act in cases dealing with the most up to date legislation including the Civil Partnership Act 2004 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

We offer training in many areas of legislation. We have given training most recently to Local Authorities on the implementation and consequences of the Adoption and Children Act 2002 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005. We also have members who lecture on areas of ancillary relief, Schedule One and Trusts. Further we have members who are qualified to give advocacy training and we have given training to both social workers and paediatricians on giving evidence in children cases. If you are interested in 14 Gray's Inn Square providing training or lecturing, please

14 Gray's Inn Square is a highly respected set of Chambers. Amongst our members we have a number of recorders and deputy district judges, a chair of a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities tribunal, an immigration judge and a trained mediator.

Members of Chambers are also dedicated to justice in the widest sense. As well as members who provide work pro bono through the Bar Pro Bono system, both Members and pupils are encouraged to undertake voluntary work for community legal projects such as the Nigerian Chaplaincy Centre and Toynbee Hall in the East End. We further have links to both the Bar Benevolent Association and One Plus One, an organization with the aim of strengthening couple and family relationships. Further we have a member of Chambers who sits on a board dealing with social housing.

As a set of Chambers we are committed to justice for families and children beyond the jurisdiction of England and Wales. In 2006, Chambers elected to support a children's project in South America. One of our door tenants is undertaking work with the support of both Chambers and the FLBA on the Family Justice System in Sierra Leone and a junior member of Chambers is due to undertake an FLBA sponsored placement working with the Children's Legal Centre operation in Tajikistan, central Asia from May 2007.

One of the first Chambers to be awarded the Bar Mark we are also BSI registered, reflecting both the expertise of our barristers and the professionalism of our clerks who have many years of specialized experience dealing particularly in Family Law.

Please see the following pages for a more detailed description of work undertaken in Chambers and also the facilities offered at 14 Gray's Inn Square.
